Word of the Day: Confidence
Confidence- just because a horse is going through the motions of exposure and learning does not mean that he is gaining confidence and feeling secure from his experiences; he may "quietly" tolerate a situation a few times before he starts to show signs of stress, insecurity or fear. A great example is the famous "wet saddle blankets" theory. Does a horse learn better though numerous reptition not matter how the lacking the quality may be- or does he learn better with things presented with a quality and clarity only a few time? My theory is first create the later theory, then head out and put those wet saddle blanket "miles" on your horse because you'll have the communication tools and trust to help your horse throughout those miles if he starts to have a problem.
