Horsemanship: Humans Learning to be Present

What if...

We applied this first to Ourselves?

*Mentally

*Emotionally

and then

 *Physically

when we are with the horse?

So many riders use the horse as time for the human to escape from reality or as an outlet from life's stresses.

Rarely do they recognize and address the Supportive Communication the horse needs from Us for them to stay mentally present, emotionally quiet, and physically reasonable.

The "Equine Partnership" will not be successful or retain quality if its foundation is based solely on the horse serving the human.

Horsemanship: Perceptions of the Halt

I find most horses asked to stand have a massive degree of containment imposed upon them to prevent them from physically moving.

Opportunities to Improve your Horsemanship

One common word I teach my students is to call ALL scenarios whether initially appearing to be potentially overwhelming, stressful, or less-than-ideal, as

Opportunities. It may be a "simple" approach, but it is amazing to watch the direct correlation in students who are persistent in practicing changing their vocabulary and the leaps and bounds of progress they make in the journey of horsemanship leading to a rewarding partnership with their horse.

Horsemanship Quote

"The level of honesty the horse offers us is unrivaled. No ulterior motive or hidden agenda. What they offer is a reflection of their current mental, emotional, and physical state. The hardest part for humans is not to respond with an emotionally based critique." Alternative Horsemanship with Samantha Harvey
