1. Many people focus (and worry) about doing things "right" and don't realize they have quit consistent, regular breathing.
This causes:
* rigid and delayed communication offered to the horse
*mental & physical fatigue
* limits their physical adaptability in the present moment

2. Many people offer constant negative criticism towards the horse (often after he has offered an unwanted response,) rather than communicating what I call Positive Alternatives- continuously communicating proactively something that the horse CAN do.

Horses and Training Approaches Helping or Hurting the Equine Partnership?

What is the most common issue I see sabotaging the human & horse partnership?
Containment

Block the horse's __...
Don't let him __...
Make him _...
When a person attempts to block, hold, or "drive" a horse they are addressing the horse's physical movement.
His movement reflects his thought, such as:
The scenario is creating stress or pressure so he protects himself with run/bolt/spook...

Self-Awareness vs Masking Unwanted Horse Behaviors

In an attempt to show kindness, folks try to pacify, mask and cloak unwanted interactions with the horse. Unfortunately, not "digging in" to what is contributing to the horse's unwanted behaviors, and instead "going along with the horse" tends to teach the horse to "take over" in situations he is unsure about.
