The Re-education of a Horse

Much of what I do is helping re-educate older horses to learn how to trust, try, and willingly participate with humans. But first, I practice "listening."

Each interaction I'm watching for feedback as the horse "tells me" their story through their eyes, ears, breathing, posture, energy, movement, mental focus or avoidance, anticipation, etc.

Pain, fear, and distrust are the three most common scenarios, ALL human created. So it is my goal to counter everything they've experienced thus far.

Every horse has a different way of "coping" and I have to alter how, when, and what I present so that the horse can learn to first acknowledge me, and then become curious about participating.

Pictured is a client's mare who was rescued before being euthanized after she was of no more use in a veterinary school program.
