#Equi-Quality Challenge
Eliminating Self-Sabotage
Day 5
I see so many good intentioned equine enthusiasts
unintentionally sabotage their interactions with the horse by:
*Asking too much too quickly
*Offering passive, "hopeful" communication
*Not allowing the horse time to search for what is being
asked of him
*Rushing from one movement/task to the next with little to
no pause in between
Learning to refine your thought process in how, what, and
why we are communicating something with the horse opens the Communication or
what I call Conversations with the horse.
By doing so we create a "safe" place for the horse
to learn how to learn. The more he is supported to search and try, even when he
is not immediately offering the ideal response, the more humans can offer input
without him getting defensive.
This is a crucial aspect that if missed causes the horse to
mentally shut down and quit, or when offered encourages them to continue
participating.
What are some opportunities in the basic day to day
interaction with the horse that you could refine your interaction to encourage
the horse and acknowledge his participation?
During mucking, feeding and grooming would all be good times to work on refining the horse person interaction is what i found to work.
