Romanticized Idealism vs Reality
Every week I get calls for help from people who bought the young horse and are overwhelmed after getting hurt by them.
The reality is it takes 3 to 4 years to develop a young horse not the magic 30 days "training fix."
It takes education, having a mentor, trial-and-error, money, time, and effort.
So many horses are standing in fields, auctions, and kill pens, due to the human's lack of education because they had an idealistic dream of the blue sky potential of a horse without any concept of the reality it takes to develop the young equine.
On a few rare occasions are inexperienced people successful with young horses? Yes; but the reality is if you ask them they'll probably advise an inexperienced person against it. It is not for the faint of heart. And if we truly have empathy for the horse we need to realize how often the inexperienced person is teaching the inexperienced horse unwanted and dangerous responses that may result in his death sentence.
